On the last pages, the writing looks very rushed and more like simple doodling. Later on, the writing is more pronounced and clear. When you look at all the pages in Tom's original book, you'll notice that the writing is very inconsistent - on the first pages the writings almost look like Nordic runes. To flesh out the book a little, and because I felt a couple of pages were missing, I decided to add a few pages of my own design, even though I'm no match at all for Tom Sullivan whom I consider a very gifted illustrator. This feature also shows that pieces of thin parchment were added in three places between certain pages. The correct order of the pages can be found in the Easter Egg featurette on disc two of The Evil Dead's Anchor Bay 2007 US R1 Ultimate Edition DVD release. I used a very finely tipped brush and painted in everything with a mixture of black and burnt umber, with other colours where needed. I used a light box to trace all the artwork off laser-printed sheets of material found on the internet. The first victim in "The Evil Dead" is attacked by tree branches that wrap around her after pages from the Necronomicon are read, conjuring up the demons in the film. Rick also noticed a moose head mounted on the wall that looks a lot like the Moose head that was possessed and laughing at Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) in "Evil Dead 2." Nicotero and the team behind the series made "The Walking Dead" horror's most fun search-and-find on modern television. When the pages were dry, I added the artwork. One corpse is tangled in tree branches (which is seemingly another "Evil Dead" reference) and has both a gun and the Necronomicon itself lying next to it.

While still on the run in the episode, Rick stopped at a cabin modeled after the one seen in "The Evil Dead." He took a seat in the middle of the cabin and looked at the death and devastation around him, noticing corpses on the floor. Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori Grimes), Emily Kinney (Beth Greene), Michael Cudlitz (Abraham Ford), and Lennie James (Morgan Jones) provided voiceover cameos as well. These visions saw former regular cast members, including Jon Bernthal (Shane Walsh), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha Williams), and Scott Wilson (Hershel Greene) appear in cameos. Rick reckoned with his legacy throughout the episode and experienced visions of people from his past.
